Tree and Grass Color Change Dates in Animal Crossing New Horizons

The colors of the plants gradually change as time goes by, from light to deep for the fall and winter.

1. September 1 to September 9: The grass is light green

The first transition from Summer to Fall occurs on September 1, starting from the day, the grass remains a light green color, while the trees start to darken slightly, providing a pretty contrast to the vibrant green grass. This time of the year is particularly beautiful as the Hibiscus and Camellia bushes are in bloom, adding a splash of color to the landscape. The grass, although still very green, does not show many hints of yellow yet. Soon after this period, you will notice further changes in the colors of the grass and trees as the Fall season progresses.

2. September 10 to October 4: grass maintains light green, and trees start to change

From September 10 to October 4, the grass remains a light green color, while the trees start to undergo a subtle change. The hardwood trees begin to lighten up slightly, and even the bamboo becomes a bit lighter in color, matching the grass more closely. This is a gradual shift, with the trees starting to get lighter and heading towards the yellowness that is characteristic of the Fall season. During this period, the Tea Olive bushes bloom, adding a beautiful contrast to the bright green grass. These bushes look particularly pretty against the light green background, making this a lovely time in the game as the seasons transition from Summer to Autumn.

3. October 5 to October 24: grass and trees start to turn yellow

Then the grass begins to show a mixture of bright green and yellow hues, while the trees, particularly the hardwood trees, turn yellow or amber. This period marks the beginning of a more pronounced Fall color scheme, with the landscape transitioning from the bright greens of Summer to the vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds of Autumn. During this time, the Azalea bushes take on different colors, showing some yellow and brown tones mixed in with the green. However, other bushes like the Holly retain their bright and dark green colors. The Tea Olive bushes continue to bloom, adding a touch of beauty to the Fall landscape.

4. October 25 to November 10: trees begin to turn orange

During the specified period, the grass begins to turn into an amber or yellow tone, becoming less green and more autumn-inspired. The trees start to turn orange, with some displaying red and yellow hues as well. And bushes take on a lighter shade of green, leaning more towards yellow than dark green.

5. November 14 to November 30: trees are shades of orange and red

The colors of grass and trees in Animal Crossing New Horizons are shades of orange and red. This is the Maple Leaf season, when the leaves on the trees are at their most vibrant, with a larger amount of red trees and deeper orange hues. The fall weeds are also in full swing during this time, and maple leaves are falling.

6. December 1 to December 10: snow falls

The snow starts to intermittently fall, and the colors of the grass and trees remain the same as in November, with vibrant red and yellow hues, but may be covered with snow to appear all white.

7. December 10: grass and trees turn brown

The grass and trees turn brown, and snow continues to fall intermittently until it finally sticks. During this time period, holly bushes are still the ones that are blooming, and they add a pop of red to the otherwise brown and white color palette.
