Here are the steps that you need to follow to actually go to these islands:

Rule 1- Do not learn DIYs on the island.

So when you fly into treasure island they will have all the DIYs in the game sometimes or a number of DIYs like seasonal DIYs that you can pick up, do not learn them on the island because that will actually block people from being able to come and go freely, you'll actually be stopping the flow of traffic to the treasure island. So take the DIYs home with you so that you're not preventing anybody else from coming or going onto the island./

Rule 2 - Cataloging is not allowed on the island

So picking up items and then dropping them again in order to get them into your catalog so you can order them from Nook shopping is not allowed, so they have garbage cans placed around the island. Most treasure islands have garbage cans frequently around the island and this allows you to find a garbage can and throw things out if you didn't want them.

Rule 3 - Don't leave through the minus button

If you leave quietly this can cause problems for other players sometimes it means that they will actually be kicked back to the airport, it's super inconvenient, and personally just in general on Animal Crossing we find it quite rude to leave through the minus button. For courtesy's sake, go back to the airport and leave through the airport instead of leaving quietly.

Rule 4 - Don't Leave the Menu Open When You AFK

If you are going to be away from the computer for a second, just put down your controller and go to the other room do what you need to do, and come back do not leave the menu open because you won't be blocking people.

Rule 5 - Have a strong internet connection

If you do not have a strong internet connection, that is reliable so for example if you are playing online with your friends and you're constantly getting kicked out of the game or you're losing internet signal as you're playing, then treasure islands are probably not the best thing for you to do or you should go and find some other wi-fi that's stronger before you do go to treasure islands. Because if you do go onto the treasure island and you have an unstable internet connection, then you will crash the island and that is not fun for anybody because everybody will be sent back to their home island and nobody's games will have been saved, so they'll lose all the items.

Common Errors & Solutions of Visiting Free Treasure Islands

Here we go over a few different errors that you can get on the screen while you can not go into treasure islands and how to solve them:

Error 1 - There's some interference somebody forgot to turn off their nook phone

The most common error that you're going to get is Orville's going to say "Wuh-oh! Looks like there's some interference somebody forgot to turn off their nook phone" and that just means that you are in line to go to the island but there's just somebody has their window open, and somebody's on their way in or out of the island and you just can't get in in that exact moment. The main solution with that is to just be patient and keep trying and of course if you keep experiencing that like over a few minutes and you're still getting this sign, we would say that island is probably very full and just find another island to go to.

Error 2 - Communication Error (Communication with the destination locale has been interrupted)

This means that either your internet signal is too weak to go to the island or the treasure island has crashed meaning someone else with a weak internet connection has crashed the island. So the solution for this depends on when you got the error:

If this error happens as soon as you attempt to join the island then the issue is most likely your home internet and we would recommend trying from another network like a friend or family member that has a stronger connection;
and the second way that this can happen is when you're actually on the island and somebody else tries to join and the island crashes, it can also happen just randomly nobody's doing anything and the island crashes, in that case, you don't know whether it was you or another person who crashed the island, unfortunately, then we would recommend attempting to join the island again once it's back up and running.
However, if you get this error multiple times, whenever you try to join an island chances are pretty good that you have a bad internet connection, so we wouldn't recommend going to treasure islands in that case, unfortunately.

Error 3 - The island is full

This means that all seven guest spots for that island have been filled and there's no more room on the island, the only other thing that you can do in that case is found another island to visit.

Will Go To Treasure Islands Be Bad For My Switch & ACNH Game?

Now the misconception that you would have is that these treasure islands are hacked and so maybe they'll be bad for your own Switch maybe you will get some kind of a virus or your Switch will break if you go to them. The answer is NO!

We can tell you from somebody who's been going to them for months and months no, you will never have your Switch have any adverse side effects at all, the only weird adverse side effect that you would get is that a villager from the moveout queue from a treasure island could come to your island.
