Animal Crossing: New Horizons New Year Events & New Items
New Year's Day can be quite a big event in the real world, and this is no exception in Animal Crossing. In every game, there has been a New Year’s celebration, and there’s one countdown taking place on your island as well! And on New Year's Day, the celebrations will continue, with New Year's gifts from Mom and a wish to bring the best wishes for the new year.

Animal Crossing New Horizons New Year Event Schedule (Start & End Time)
ACNH New Year's Eve: December 31st, 5 PM to 5 AM
ACNH New Year's Countdown: December 31st, 11 PM - January 1st, 2 AM
ACNH New Year's Day: January 1st, 6 AM to 11 AM
ACNH New Year's Eve
On 31 December, the last day of each year, there is a countdown on the festival site. Resident Services will close on the last day of the year, so Tom Nook and Isabelle can set up their display outside. Don’t worry, other buildings in town will still operate per their usual hours.
The pair can be seen wearing tuxedos and party hats - very chic. You will also notice a big countdown clock outside, just waiting for 12 AM. Tom Nook stands next to her in a tuxedo jacket and presents you with a gift to celebrate the day. The balloons attached to the countdown show the Chinese zodiac sign of the now almost past year. Isabelle stands next to it in a tuxedo jacket and presents you with a gift to celebrate the day. Tom Nook has also set up a booth where you can buy New Year's Hats and Party Poppers.
ACNH New Year Countdown
With 1 hour remaining until the New Year, all of the island’s residents will gather outside of Resident Services in preparation for the fireworks display. When there are less than 5 minutes to go, your villagers will get their own Light Sticks out. What a colorful display! The clock will then begin to countdown. Once it hits 0, Happy New Year! The fireworks show will begin and last until 2 AM on January 1st. Be sure to talk with your fellow villagers to celebrate the new year with them, they wish you a happy new year and will chat a little about their plans and wishes for the new year.
ACNH New Year's Day
On New Year's Day, online players can receive 10,000 Animal Crossing bells or indoor plants as New Year's gifts from their mothers by in-game mail. And Isabelle will be present at a special cutout (available in the Event Plaza) until 12 AM, talk with her, she will give you a special gift which is an animal-based off the Chinese zodiac of the current year.

Light Sticks & Party Popper For New Year Countdown
To help you participate in the countdown and usher in the new year, some small gifts will be provided.
When To Get: Start from December 31st at 5 PM (once the New Year’s Eve event start) till the countdown start (10 seconds before new year’s day)
How To Get Party Popper: When you talk with Isabelle, she will give you a Light Stick! This item is sure to light the way for the new year.
How To Get Light Stick: Speak to Tom Nook and he will give you a Party Popper, a great way to kick off celebrations with a bang.
ACNH New Year's Hats
The New Year's hat is available in 8 colors: Red, pink, green, and purple, orange, blue, light blue, yellow. It’s possible to purchase all four colors provided that you’ve got enough bells. Collectors should consider buying each color since they’re only available once a year. In your city, however, it only offers two of the four hats - New Year's Silk Hat & New Year's Hat. However, you can visit other player's islands, as other New Year’s hats are sold there.

How To Get: During the New Year's Eve event, speak with Tom Nook and you will have the option to buy a New Year’s Hat for 500 Bells and a set of Party Poppers for 300 Bells.
ACNH New Year's Food
Similar to other festivals, special New Year food will be available for players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, some of them can be obtained from Nook Shopping with bells during the holiday season, and some of them will be sent out as a New Year gift from Isabelle.
Here is the list of New Year’s Food in Animal Crossing New Horizons:
Berliner - In Germany, Berliners are a popular holiday pastry. Usually, they have a sweet filling like jam. On New Year's Eve, one of the Berliners is sometimes filled with mustard instead as a prank and placed between the others.
Kagamimochi - In Japan, it used to be forbidden to make fires and cook in the first three days of the new year so as not to annoy the deities. An exception to this was the cooking of the Zoni soup. Kagamimochi is often eaten at this.
New Year's Noodles - In Japan, this year-crossing noodles as a Japanese traditional noodle bowl dish eaten on New Year's Eve, are enjoyed directly on New Year's Eve.
Olivier Salad - In Russia and other post-Soviet states, as well as in Russophone communities world-wide, the salad has become one of the main dishes on zakuski tables served during New Year's Eve ("Novy God") celebrations.
Sparkling Cider - Sparkling Cider is a common thing to drink on new years in America. In ACNH, you can obtain it by buying it at the seasonable section in the Nook Shopping App during December 26-31.
Twelve-Grape Dish - In Spain, one of the twelve grapes is eaten at midnight for each bell. Each grape is symbolic of one month in the new year. If you don't manage to eat the grapes on time, you should expect bad luck in the new year.
How To Get New Year's Food - In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Isabelle gives New Year’s food as gifts depend on the country in which you live. And some of the countries’ players could receive other items related to the festival, which will talk about later, keep reading! But it seems in Animal Crossing New Horizons, the New Year’s foods will be available on the Nook Shopping App from December 26th to December 31st. And if there is an area limited for buying, we have no idea yet, more information will be updated here!
ACNH New Year Items

2021 Celebratory Arch - It can be obtained from Nook Shopping for 2021 Bells from January 1 to January 15 as a celebration of New Year's Day.
Yut Nori - It can be obtained from Nook Shopping for 1300 Bells from January 1 to January 15 as a celebration of New Year's Day.
Kadomatsu - It can be obtained from Nook Shopping from January 1 to January 15 as a celebration of Shōgatsu.
New Year's Shimekazari - It can be obtained from Nook Shopping for 2000 Bells from January 1 to January 15 as a celebration of Shōgatsu.
Zodiac Ox Figurine - It can be obtained from Nook Shopping between January 1 to January 15 as a celebration of New Year's Day. It sells for 400 Bells.
